INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
EATING DISORDER
RECOVERY
Therapy with me is a judgement-free place that can help you gain perspective and understanding of your emotions, historical ways of coping, and relationship patterns. Therapy is a healing relationship, not a quick fix. I focus on connection as a tool for helping you make practical changes, at your pace, and in a way that feels right to you. I can offer support in areas of anxiety, depression, grief, family and relationship challenges, identity formation, sexuality, gender identity, and personal growth. I take a Client-Centered approach to therapy, while drawing upon insights from Narrative Therapy, Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness.
I have a specific passion for working with teens around the challenges of moving into young-adulthood, decision making, navigating relationships, and exploring identity + personal values. I emphasize trust, connection, and creativity, and our work together focuses on building self-esteem, shame-resilience, and finding helpful skills to support improved well-being. When appropriate and possible, parents and caregivers are in the loop with sessions and calls.
FAMILY THERAPY
Every family experiences seasons where a little extra support may be needed. During big or small life changes, growing children, blending families, or managing the impact of individual struggles - family therapy can help. Each member of your family has a unique temperament, experiencing different challenges and strengths. I draw on principles from Symbolic-Experiential and Structural Family Therapy. I'd love to come alongside your family to assist in your journey toward improved communication, and more sustainable and supportive dynamics. I also offer parent coaching sessions as a standalone support or supplement to family therapy.
Whether you've struggling with an eating disorder in the past, difficult patterns in your relationship with food or exercise, or long standing body image concerns, I can help. My clients in recovery are often people who've been to higher levels of care in the past, have left (most) behaviors behind, and are ready to dive in and explore the roots of the eating disorder. I can offer knowledgeable support, help shoring up skills, accountability in your recovery, and guidance in maintaining a treatment team. I provide a space to continue healing your relationship with food, your body, and movement, so you can live a fuller and more connected life.
I am weight inclusive, fat-positive, anti-diet, and operate from a Health at Every Size ® perspective. Each person's experience with disordered eating or exercise is different, and can often exist on a spectrum. Individual therapy on an outpatient basis may be appropriate, or I may recommend looking into a higher level of care. My goal is to help you find the support you need, even if that's not with me initially. The National Eating Disorders Association can provide more information about eating disorders and levels of care.
PERINATAL
MENTAL HEALTH
I came to this work through my own reproductive story. Having experienced the challenges of infertility, I know how emotionally, physically, and financially taxing the path to parenthood can be. Without the right support, the experiences of trying to start a family, and becoming a parent, can take a tremendous toll on us and our relationships. Often anxiety, depression, self-worth challenges, loneliness, and trouble managing daily life become part of the story of parenthood. For some, this extends into pregnancy and parenthood in the form of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. I can offer support as you navigate these, explore fears, grieve, find hope, and celebrate. I provide knowledge and skills to help you navigate the use of Assisted Reproductive Technology and fertility clinics, loss and miscarriage, family planning decisions, moving into pregnancy, choosing life without children, or the entrance into parenthood. I'm currently pursing my certification in Perinatal Mental Health.
SPEAKING,
TEACHING, & COACHING
Beyond therapy, I have a passion for learning, the sharing of knowledge, and education. I've taught courses in Psychology and Child & Adolescent Interventions at both Bachelor's and Master's levels; I offer coaching nationally and internationally; and I am available for speaking events on the topics of Eating Disorders and Perinatal Mental Health in groups of health-care providers, at schools to students or educators, or within other organizations. Please contact me for more information and my rates.
